Predators - Robert Rodriguez Brings New Life to a Movie Legend

The new Predators movie looks set to do something that many sci-fi fans thought was going to be impossible, and actually finally bring some real credibility back to these famous iconic monsters. While the original Predator movie was quite superb and Predator 2 a pretty entertaining sequel, the franchise was monumentally derailed by what many fans perceived as a not so perfect Alien Vs Predator and its much criticized follow-up, Aliens Vs Predator: Requiem. Those two films, while full of action and shocks, were though to be devoid of everything that made the Predators so compelling in the first place. They were onscreen too much, too clumsy, and all of their mystique was lost.

Now, all that is changing thanks to the more than capable work of Robert Rodriguez and his crew, who have finally given us a Predators movie that lives up to the promise of the first film. I would liken this to the second film in the 'Alien' movie series- a step up from the original in terms of tension and scale, and essentially a supercharged version of the first.

This film looks set to be stuffed with everything that made the Predators so great all those years ago, and it has the bonus of a brilliant cast, which is something both of the AVP movies were lacking. This time around with the new Predators movie, we have stars like Adrian Brody and Laurence Fishburne filling out a superb roll-call of talent, which is an all-important edge over the previous flicks. This time around, there are actual characters onscreen instead of just cannon fodder.

The tension has been ramped up in the new Predators movie thanks to the twist of setting it on a planet the Predators use as a game reserve, and the human cast is their game. That's a superb idea which will add a ton of fear to proceedings, and coupled with the characters playing off each other and trying to stay alive, fans are in for something spectacular. The crew have worked really hard to create something that looks every bit as gripping as the countless fans could hope for, even so far as including the return of the original Stan Winston designed Predator creature from the original movie.

Trailers and promo pictures from the movie suggest a much more thoughtful film, planned out better, shot better, acted better and just plain better than those two crossover films. The new Predators movie has really reignited interest in these iconic movie monsters, and that is something that us fans of the classic films must thank Robert Rodriguez for. It's pretty much safe to say that the new movie is going to be a film to remember and will be the catalyst for some great new Predators movie memorabilia to be produced for loyal Predator fans. You can expect some great action figures, statues, posters and other movie collectibles to be flying off the shelves as the movie takes off and enthralls film audiences across the planet.

Science fiction horror film fans (aren't they everywhere?) just love the Predator film series. Fortunately for collectors, there is no shortage of cool action figures representing the characters from these flicks.

The Predator Franchise

The Predator film series is a science fiction horror film franchise. The series started in 1987 with the film Predator, produced by 20th Century Fox. This was followed by a sequel, Predator 2 (1990), and numerous novel, comic book and video game spin-offs. There were also three more incredible films: Alien vs. Predator (also known as AVP, 2004), Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (also known as AVP:R, 2007), and Predators (2010).

Predator Action Figures - The Basics

Whether you consider them toys or (like us serious collectors) works of art, the many action figures associated with the Predator movies will thrill you with their variety of colors, sizes, details, and Accessories.

There are really a great many Predator action figures on the market. There are dozens of related figures to be found using a simple online search. Quite a few companies have produced Predator action figures, including Sideshow Collectibles, NECA, and McFarlane Toys.

McFarlane Toys released, in 2004, a series of figures from AVP that range from 8-1/4 to 8-1/2 inches tall. These articulated (poseable) figures are finely detailed and some come with removable Accessories. The five figures in this series are Scar Predator, Elder Predator, Celtic Predator, Grid Alien, and Battle Alien.

Cost

The cost of the Predator action figures runs a wide gamut. Some can be bought for about , while some of the figures from McFarlane Toys can fetch up to 0. Some of the rare figures that are no longer in production are hard to find in the usual retail outlets, but may be seen on eBay for 0 or more!

Other Features

The available figures differ in size, ranging from 2 to 24 inches or more in height. Some are rigid, and some poseable. Some figures require assembly, and the product description of these should include the terms "kit version" or "some assembly required".

Bundles and Related Products

You can buy sets that include two, three, or even four, separate characters in a single package. There are also bundles of characters with dioramas.
